What is PTSD Patrol About?

UPDATE
As of June 2020, I have retired from working with veterans because of how many others have PTSD, but are not finding what you need to #TakeBackYourLife from PTSD.

After 38 years of researching PTSD and a lifetime of experience, I knew I could be of more value clearing the way for every survivor of trauma.

Daily videos, short messages connected to driving are intended to help you understand what PTSD is and what power you have over it.

Most people can understand the vehicles they drive better than the vehicle they live in. Experience taught me this is the best approach since you will think about all of this in terms of leaving where you are and getting to where you want to go.

According to the National Center for PTSD you have plenty of company on this road trip.

How Common is PTSD in Adults?
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can occur after you have been through a trauma. A trauma is a shocking and dangerous event that you see or that happens to you. During this type of event, you think that your life or others' lives are in danger.

Going through trauma is not rare. About 6 of every 10 men (or 60%) and 5 of every 10 women (or 50%) experience at least one trauma in their lives. Women are more likely to experience sexual assault and child sexual abuse. Men are more likely to experience accidents, physical assault, combat, disaster, or to witness death or injury.

PTSD can happen to anyone. It is not a sign of weakness. A number of factors can increase the chance that someone will develop PTSD, many of which are not under that person's control. For example, if you were directly exposed to the trauma or injured, you are more likely to develop PTSD.

Facts about How Common PTSD Is
The following statistics are based on the U.S. population:

About 7 or 8 out of every 100 people (or 7-8% of the population) will have PTSD at some point in their lives. About 8 million adults have PTSD during a given year. This is only a small portion of those who have gone through a trauma.

About 10 of every 100 women (or 10%) develop PTSD sometime in their lives compared with about 4 of every 100 men (or 4%). Learn more about women, trauma and PTSD.

PTSD PATROL
started out of frustration! When the only message veterans have been hearing is a guess about them committing suicide, a group of us got fed up with having voices offering hope become suffocated by some using these suicides for their own pockets!

Sorry, but I have absolutely no sympathy for them at all.

Considering if they did not read the report they use for fundraising and attention getting, it is not hard to figure out this did not matter enough in the first place. Then again, if it had mattered, they would have joined forces with groups already out there working on saving more lives than trying to count the lost.

After almost 36 years now, I have seen far too much of the opposite results when these veterans discover they are not trapped by PTSD. Healing is more than possible! It is probable with the right help for their mind, body and spirit.

It is hard to understand PTSD but everyone can understand driving. You are in control over where you go, how you get there and yes, the road was cleared long before you got on it.

PTSD Patrol Sunday Morning Empowerment Zone videos are geared toward putting it all in the perspective of vehicles so that you understand the one you live in as much as the one you drive.

Most of the time I am in the videos along with my buddy Murray.

Other times some of my human buddies show up too. All of us have the same attitude. Nothing is impossible unless you settle for giving up!

It is your choice and your life. Get in and drive it!
