Getting by with a little help from real friends

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 30, 2020

Don't you know I'm gonna make it with my friends? (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I promised myself I'd get by (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Said I'm gonna try and not work too hard (Ooh)
Well I, yeah yeah yeah
(Could it be anybody?)
Oh there's gotta be somebody
Don't treat me wrong Lord
Joe Crocker

...but what if you don't have real friends you can turn to to help you? That happens a lot more times than people want to admit. I know it has happened to me. I thought some people were my friends but it turned out, they only wanted me around when they needed something, but were never there when I did. If you have one or two real friends, then you are blessed. It has more to do with who you meet than who you are. If you need help with PTSD, then seek out a support group. That is where you do matter to people who understand you, and they want to help you as much as they want your help..and then you get by with a little help for your real friends!

Remember, it is your life...get in and drive it! #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD

What would you do if I sang out of tune?
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song
I will try not to sing out of key
Oh, baby I get by (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
All I need is my buddies (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I say I'm gonna get high (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Oh yeah (Ooh)
What do I do when my love is away?
(Does it worry you to be alone?)
No no
How do I feel at the end of the day?
(Are you sad because you're on your own?)
I tell ya I don't get sad no more
Gonna get by with my friends (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Yeah yeah, I'm gonna try (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Keep on getting high, oh Lord (Ooh)
I need somebody to love
(Could it be anybody?)
All I need is someone
That's just where I'm going, yeah
Somebody knows that's where I'm showing
Baby
Said I'm gonna make it with my friends (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Oh, I'm gonna keep on trying (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I'm gonna keep on trying (Ooh)
I'm certain it happens all the time, yeah
(What do you see when you turn out the light?)
I can't tell you but it sure feels like mine
Don't you know I'm gonna make it with my friends? (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I promised myself I'd get by (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Said I'm gonna try and not work too hard (Ooh)
Well I, yeah yeah yeah
(Could it be anybody?)
Oh there's gotta be somebody
Don't treat me wrong Lord
Oh yeah yeah
Said I'm gonna get by with my friends, yeah (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Oh, yes I'm gonna keep trying, now (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Keep on trying with my friends (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Oh, I'm never gonna stop there, oh (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I'm gonna keep on trying, yeah yeah (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I'm getting high, I'm gonna make time, oh Lord (Ooh)
Gonna get by with my friends
Oh, I'm gonna get on by, yes I'm gonna get on by, my Lord
I'm gonna tell them all about it, I'm gonna tell them all, yeah yeah

Letting music help you Drift Away

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 29, 2020

Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Beginning to think that I'm wastin' time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
So I'm countin' on you to carry me through
If you haven't guessed by now, the feature video on PTSD Patrol is Dobie Gray Drift Away.

Hopefully by now, with all the music being shared, you've noticed how you mood does change, even if it is just for a little while. This is why music therapy works on PTSD. It takes your mind away from your problems and helps to teach your body to calm down again.

This is one of the best songs to explain that.
Remember, it is your life...get in and drive it. #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD

Day after day I'm more confused
Yet I look for the light in the pouring rain
You know that's a game that I hate to lose
I'm feelin' the strain, ain't it a shame
Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Beginning to think that I'm wastin' time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
So I'm countin' on you to carry me through
Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue
The guitar's comin' through to soothe me
Thanks for the joy that you've given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
Rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You help me along makin' me strong
Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Hey, hey, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Na na na, won't ya, won't ya take me
Oh oh, take me
Won't find
Early in the morning, they wanna take me
Come on and free my soul na na and drift away

Fighting is a choice we all have to make at one point in our life or another

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 28, 2020

I never thought I would ever use the word Saint and Alice Cooper in the same sentence, but here it is. He came out with a song about not giving up, Don't Give Up. Fighting is a choice we all have to make at one point in our life or another. In this case, it is deciding if you want to fight for the lives of others.

Do you only focus on your own pain, or search your soul to see what you can do to change the lives of others for the better, because you've been there and know what it is like. What it is like to be hopeless, afraid, lonely and discouraged, but you also know what it was like when someone came along and helped you feel better about your own life.

When Thanksgiving came, there were people all over the country, lining up at food distribution sites. Not to get food, but to give it out to those who would otherwise go hungry. When musicians take the time to come up with songs like this one from Alice Cooper, and Steven Perry in the other video, they do it, not for the publicity, but to use their publicity to make things better.

Right now, all over the country, there are people stepping up to make a positive difference. There are some out there who do not believe there is a plague and deny they are contributing to it, because they cannot see how they can make a difference in a positive way to help others through it. Try to not focus on them because they are not happy or loving people. They are miserable and spread their misery as fast as the plague.

When you have PTSD, you run into that type of person all the time. They deny what PTSD is and can make it feel as if the world is crashing in on you. Don't spend your time with the people knocking down the rocks on your head, but focus on those securing the walls to keep you safer.

Miracles happen everyday because people care and know where you are so they can help you, Seek them out instead of hiding from them. They can't help you if they don't know you need it.

Yeah, I know you're struggling right now
We all are, in different ways
It's like a new world that we don't even know
It's hard to sleep
Even harder to dream
But look, you've got 7 billion brothers and sisters all in the same boat
So don't panic
Life has a way of surviving and going on and on
We're not fragile, and we sure don't break easy
You know it's so hard to cope
When you're just hoping there's hope
We're all hanging on by a thread
We're all staring at the razor's edge
But we're not going to step off the ledge
No!
Our enemy is a cold, indiscriminate monster
It doesn't care if you're old or newborn, it exists to kill
You and I are nothing to it
It has no heart or soul or conscience
Do we fear it? Yeah
Do we cower before it? Hell no
We're the blood and guts human race, and we win!
You know that it's right
So we just gotta fight
Yeah, we're all hanging on by a thread
We're all staring at the razor's edge
But we're not going to step off the ledge
No!
We're all hanging on by a thread
We're all staring at the razor's edge
But we're not going to step off the ledge
No!
This is Alice Cooper in Detroit
Let's keep fighting
Don't give up

Under neon lights, we claim this town
No one can take us down
No, not tonight
City Boys and City Girls
Runnin' Wild
Burning like a fallin' star
Golden stardust, that's what we are
Young voices carry on
Come together in the same ole song
We're still here
We're shadows fallin'
The night is callin' again
We're still here
Where love is runnin'
The night is calling, again
(Brother to brother)
Another night, another town
Walkin' my heart around
Same old choices, again
Like so many tears in the rain
Will they remember your name
Young hearts reach fearlessly
In the night
We're still here
We're shadows fallin'
The night is callin' again
We're still here
Where love is runnin'
The night is calling, again
(Sister to sister)
We're all together
(You know, I care)
We are
(We will)
Always
(Be together)
We're still here
We're shadows fallin'
The night is callin' again
We're still here
Where love is runnin'
The night is calling, again
(Brother to Brother)
Brother to Brother
(Sister to Sister)
We're still here
Where love is runnin'
The night is calling, again

PTSD does not mean you are broken

Wounded Times and PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 27, 2020

Today I noticed that Wounded Times is still getting about 1,000 hits a day after months of not posting on it. That tells me the need to find this work, is still there. While I have been focusing on everyone with PTSD since June, I keep getting reminders that our veterans are not getting what they need to heal. One more reminder came Tuesday when I received a phone call from someone working with veterans.

As we were talking, the sadness took over because he was having a hard time facing the fact that his work was hard to find too. So much nonsense out there getting in the way of what works, and what can change lives, more and more people are giving up. We're not! We are not giving up because as heartbreaking as it is to know how much suffering there is out there, the feeling we get when lives are changed, is so worth whatever price we have to pay with our own emotions.

I know first hand that life can change for the better. My husband knows that. All the veterans I've worked with over all these years, know that. I just wish everyone knew that.

So today, the daily video on PTSD Patrol is featuring Jon Bon Jovi Unbroken. If you are a veteran, you are not broken and you are not the problem. If you are a person trying to heal PTSD, you are not broken either. No one is really broken, a little dented, OK, but not broken.

I was born to be of service
Basic training felt like home
I had honor, I found purpose
Sir, yes, sir, that's what I know
They sent us to a place
I'd never heard of weeks before
When you're 19, it ain't hard to sleep
In the desert on God's floor
Close your eyes, stop counting sheep
You ain't in prison anymore
We were taught to shoot our rifles
Men and women side by side
Thought we'd be met as liberators
In a thousand-year-old fight
I got this painful ringing in my ear
From an IED last night
But no lead-lined Humvee war machine
Could save my sergeant's life
Three more soldiers, six civilians
Need these words to come out right
God of mercy, God of light
Save your children from this life
Hear these words, this humble plea
For I have seen the suffering
And with this prayer I'm hoping
That we can be unbroken
It's eighteen months now I've been back now
With this medal on my chest
But there are things I can't remember
And there are things I won't forget
I lie awake at night
With dreams the devil shouldn't see
I wanna scream but I can't breathe
And, Christ, I'm sweating through these sheets
Where's my brothers? Where's my country?
Where's my how-things-used-to-be?
God of mercy, God of light
Save your children from this life
Hear these words, this humble plea
For I have seen the suffering
And with this prayer I'm hoping
That we can be unbroken
My service dog's done more for me
Than the medication would
There ain't no angel that's coming to save me
But even if they could
Today twenty-two will die from suicide
Just like yesterday, they're gone
I live my life for each tomorrow
So their memories will live on
Once we were boys and we were strangers
Now we're brothers and we're men
Someday you'll ask me "Was it worth it
To be of service in the end?"
Well, the blessing and the curse is
Yeah, I'll do it all again

PTSD Patrol Don't Stop Me Now

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 26, 2020

Happy Thanksgiving! That may not sound so good if you are spending today alone, or feeling as if there is little in your life to be thankful for. Maybe it is time you changed, not just what you focus on, but how you see what it is. If you have PTSD, and are suffering, you may view what followed surviving as punishment. You got sadder, more depressed and pulled away from the people you cared about. That's hard. Try to change how you see surviving as another chance to change. After all, that is what PTSD is. It was change from what you perceived as "normal" into trauma, and then back out as a survivor. It changed how you see things in your life.

There have been stories about people who died, and were brought back to life, reporting how they saw things. Bright lights, images of their life, replays of events and surrounded by warmth. For others, it was not such a pleasant exprience. It was almost like the story of Scrooge for them. Those who saw the horrific were also changed but for some of them, even that did not get them to change their ways. They went deeper into thinking only about themselves. Those who had the good experience between death and re-life changed for the better. Kinder, more thoughtful, wanting to be a better person, they made the best out of their extra time.

When you change how you view things, it makes a huge difference in how you see everything, little by little. If you wish you could have had the traditional celebration this year, know that you did the right thing by staying away from others because there is a raging pandemic out there. You are not contributing to it, but helping those you care about stay alive. In other words, preventing the need to regret a selfish decision.

Now you can focus on next year. How much better will it be when you are healing even more and are happier? That is why today the feature video is Queen Don't Stop Me Now. You can be having a good time when things are better, because you will be better. Your outlook will be better and those you care about will know, you did this work on yourself for their sake. Think about that gift you will give them next year on Thanksgiving!

Remember it is your life...get in and drive it! #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD

Tonight, I'm gonna have myself a real good time
I feel alive and the world I'll turn it inside out, yeah
And floating around in ecstasy
So don't stop me now don't stop me
'Cause I'm having a good time, having a good time
I'm a shooting star, leaping through the sky
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I'm a racing car, passing by like Lady Godiva
I'm gonna go, go, go
There's no stopping me
I'm burnin' through the sky, yeah
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm traveling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic man out of you
Don't stop me now, I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball
Don't stop me now
If you wanna have a good time, just give me a call
Don't stop me now ('cause I'm having a good time)
Don't stop me now (yes, I'm havin' a good time)
I don't want to stop at all
Yeah, I'm a rocket ship on my way to Mars
On a collision course
I am a satellite, I'm out of control
I am a sex machine, ready to reload
Like an atom bomb about to
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh explode
I'm burnin' through the sky, yeah
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm traveling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic woman of you
Don't stop me, don't stop me
Don't stop me, hey, hey, hey
Don't stop me, don't stop me
Ooh ooh ooh, I like it
Don't stop me, don't stop me
Have a good time, good time
Don't stop me, don't stop me, ah
Oh yeah
Alright
Oh, I'm burnin' through the sky, yeah
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm traveling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic man out of you
Don't stop me now, I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball
Don't stop me now
If you wanna have a good time (wooh)
Just give me a call (alright)
Don't stop me now ('cause I'm having a good time, yeah yeah)
Don't stop me now (yes, I'm havin' a good time)
I don't want to stop at all
La da da da daah
Da da da haa
Ha da da ha ha haaa
Ha da daa ha da da aaa
Ooh ooh ooh

PTSD Patrol Do You Want To Stay Together?

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 25, 2020

Today the video is up early make up for yesterday. My husband had minor surgery and was supposed to come home but they decided to keep him overnight. This morning when I was driving to pick him up, I heard a song on the radio and started to chair dance.

It got me thinking about all the things we've been through and how glad I was that I decided to stay with him when things were not so good. The way I see it, I knew him when things were better. I knew his character and his heart. I knew he'd be worth whatever I needed to do to help him be happier.

The song is Al Green's Let's Stay Together.

This is for anyone who loves someone with PTSD. You need to figure out if you want to stay together in bad times as well as the good. Having PTSD isn't easy on them. It is hard on you, but especially hard on them since they lose hope as they see you pulling away from them. When they need you the most, they push you away so that you won't see how much pain they are in. That may not make sense to you, but there isn't much that does make sense when they are living on a rollercoaster with their emotions all over the place.

They feel the don't deserve anything one moment and the next, they are entitled to everything. They have overblown reactions to simple things and paranoia starts to take over too. They try to hide their pain so that you don't feel sorry for them or think they are crazy, and that leaves you not knowing what it going on.

There is no way we could have stayed together all these years if I didn't have a full understanding of what PTSD was and knew that things could get better with a lot of work and a lot of patience. Faith, well, needless to say, played a huge part in keeping me together too.

Listen to the lyrics and then ask yourself, do you want to stay together or walk away? My guess is that you love them enough to fight for them, the same way you'd hope they'd fight for you if you were the survivor who needed them!

"Let's Stay Together"

Let's stay together
I'm, I'm so in love with you
Whatever you want to do
Is alright with me
'Cause you make me feel so brand new
And I want to spend my life with you
Let me say that since, baby
Since we've been together
Loving you forever
Is what I need
Let me be the one you come running to
I'll never be untrue

Oh, baby, let's, let's stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad

Whether times are good or bad, happy or sad

Why, somebody, why people break-up
Oh, turn around and make-up
I just can't see
You'd never do that to me
Would you, baby?
Just being around you is all I see

Here's what I want us to do

Let's, we ought to stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad
Come on

Let's, let's stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad

PTSD Patrol When Life Gets Good Again

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 23, 2020

Did you know that life is going to get good again? It always does. Ever since this nation began, we've been through terrible times, but it got good again. We've had wars and turmoil, sickeness and mass deaths, the list goes on, but out of all those heartbreaking events, miracles happened...and life got good again

The thing is, when it does, what will you be like? Will you be a better person? Kinder, more loving, appreciate the people in our life more and feel blessed over little things, or will you remain bitter?

Today the feature video is Dolly Parton When Life Gets Good Again!

A lot of people are thinking about themselves and how they want to be with their family and friends having a feast for Thanksgiving. Why? Why would they want to jeopardize the people they are supposed to be thankful for?

Some want to celebrate Christmas with parties and buy gifts for the people in their lives to make them happy, but fail to see they could come to regret it when it is too late, and next year, instead of gifts, they are putting flowers on their graves.

Feeling sorry is a lot different than regretting something like that. A bad decision for a good reason always has bad results. It is much better to have them around as long as possible, for when life gets good again!

Next year, you can be a happier person if you work on it so you'll be ready for when life gets good again, and you are healing.

Remember it is your life...get in and drive it! #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD

Dolly Parton - When Life Is Good Again (Official Music Video)
When life is good again
I'll be a better friend
A bigger person when
Life is good again
More thoughtful than I've been
I'll be so different then
More in the moment when
Life is good again
I'll open up my heart
And let the whole world in
I'll try to make amends
When life is good again
We've been brought to our knees
We've been so ill at ease
There are no guarantees
But you know life goes on
This too shall pass away
Bring new and different days
We need to change our ways
And right our wrongs
Let's open up our hearts
And let the whole world in
Let's try to make amends
When life is good again
I'll open up my doors again
And hear the message in the wind
Repent of all my sins (Hallelujah)
When life is good again
I'll try to be someone
On which you can depend
A helping hand to lend
Let's open up our eyes
And see what's goin' on
If we're to move along
From where we've been
Let's open up our hearts
And let the love shine in (shine in)
We've all got knees to bend
And we'll just pray 'til then
Ask God's forgiveness when
Life is good again
And it's gonna be good again
(It's gonna be, it's gonna be)
It's gonna be good again
It'll be alright (it'll be alright)
God's the reason for all things
You want rainbows, you get rain
We'll all be forever changed (forever changed)
I'll sail my boat and fly my kite
Walk in the park, go out at night
And hold my loved ones extra tight
When everything is on the mend
I'll even drink with my old friends
Sing and play my mandolin
We'll make it through this long dark night
Darkness fades when faced with light
But everything's gonna be alright
When life is good again

PTSD Patrol Don't Give Up

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 22, 2020

When you believe in yourself, it sucks when others do not believe in you too. You know the right thing to do, and when it gets hard to do it, it is easier to just give up...but not better.

I know what that is like. I have over 500 videos up on YouTube and lost count on how many posts, but there are not many people who supported me over the years. I still believe in doing the right thing.

When I met my husband, people didn't think it would last but we've been together for 38 years and married for over 36...because we believed. We believed in each other and got through the darkest times together.

"Even when nobody else believes, I'm mot grim' down easily" and that is why the feature song today is Andy Grammar Don't Give Up On Me.

It would be easier to do the right thing if you have support and someone to help you, but don't let that stop you. That is how miracles happen, Everything that has been achieved only happened because the people trying to do it, did not give up on themselves.

Don't let PTSD stop you from believing in yourself!

I won't give up on you and hope you don't give up on me!

Remember, it is your life, get in and drive it! #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD

I will fight
I will fight for you
I always do until my heart
Is black and blue
And I will stay
I will stay with you
We'll make it to the other side
Like lovers do
I'll reach my hands out in the dark
And wait for yours to interlock
I'll wait for you
I'll wait for you
'Cause I'm not givin' up
I'm not givin' up, givin' up
No, not yet
Even when I'm down to my last breath
Even when they say there's nothin' left
So don't give up on
I'm not givin' up
I'm not givin' up, givin' up
No, not me
Even when nobody else believes
I'm not goin' down that easily
So don't give up on me
And I will hold
I'll hold onto you
No matter what this world'll throw
It won't shake me loose
I'll reach my hands out in the dark
And wait for yours to interlock
I'll wait for you
I'll wait for you
'Cause I'm not givin' up
I'm not givin' up, givin' up
No, not yet
Even when I'm down to my last breath
Even when they say there's nothin' left
So don't give up on
I'm not givin' up
I'm not givin' up, givin' up
No, not me
Even when nobody else believes
I'm not goin' down that easily
So don't give up on me
Whoa, whoa
Whoa, whoa
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I will fight
I will fight for you
I always do until my heart
Is black and blue

I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I'm not enough
Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up
Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low?
Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know, ooh oh
You say I am loved when I can't feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
And You say I am held when I am falling short
And when I don't belong, oh, You say I am Yours
And I believe (I), oh, I believe (I)
What You say of me (I)
I believe
The only thing that matters now is everything You think of me
In You I find my worth, in You I find my identity, ooh oh
You say I am loved when I can't feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
And You say I am held when I am falling short
When I don't belong, oh, You say I am Yours
And I believe (I), oh, I believe (I)
What You say of me (I)
Oh, I believe
Taking all I have and now I'm layin' it at Your feet
You'll have every failure God, You'll have every victory, ooh oh
You say I am loved when I can't feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
You say I am held when I am falling short
When I don't belong, oh, You say I am Yours
And I believe (I), oh, I believe (I)
What You say of me (I)
I believe
Oh, I believe (I), yes, I believe (I)
What You say of me (I)
I believe (oh)

PTSD Patrol Tell Them About It

PTSD Patrol
Kathis Costos
November 21, 2020

Today the feature video is Billy Joel Tell Her About it! When you have PTSD and you are trying to hide what is going on with you, the person you love, the people in your family, will have no idea what is going on with you. Most people have no clue what PTSD is and have even less of an idea about what you are experiencing. TELL THEM ABOUT IT!

If you try to hide it, they can see the changes and they wonder what you're hiding. Did you stop loving them. Did you find someone else? What did they do wrong to cause you to act the way you are? It isn't fair to them.

When you push them away, they push you away and sooner or later, you have no one to help you. You are destroying a good relationship instead of building one.

TELL THEM ABOUT IT, trust them enough to tell them about it and yes, even share your crazy dreams.

Remember, it is your life...get in and drive it! #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD.

Listen boy
I don't want to see you let a good thing
Slip away
You know I don't like watching
Anybody make the same mistakes
I made
She's a real nice girl
And she's always there for you
But a nice girl wouldn't tell you what you should do
Listen boy
I'm sure that you think you got it all
Under control
You don't want somebody telling you
The way to stay in someone's soul
You're a big boy now
You'll never let her go
But that's just the kind of thing
She ought to know
Tell her about it
Tell her everything you feel
Give her every reason to accept
That you're for real
Tell her about it
Tell her all your crazy dreams
Let her know you need her
Let her know how much she means
Listen boy
It's not automatically a certain guarantee
To insure yourself
You've got to provide communication constantly
When you love someone
You're always insecure
And there's only one good way
To reassure
Tell her about it
Let her know how much you care
When she can't be with you
Tell her you wish you were there
Tell her about it
Every day before you leave
Pay her some attention
Give her something to believe
'Cause now and then
She'll get to worrying
Just because you haven't spoken
For so long
Though you may not have done anything
Will that be a consolation when she's gone
Listen boy
It's good information from a man
Who's made mistakes
Just a word or two that she gets from you
Could be the difference that it makes
She's a trusting soul
She's put her trust in you
But a girl like that won't tell you
What you should do
Tell her about it
Tell her everything you feel
Give her every reason
To accept that you're for real
Tell her about it
Tell her all your crazy dreams
Let her know you need her
Let her know how much she means
Tell her about it
Tell her how you feel right now
Tell her about it
The girl don't want to wait too long
You got to tell her about it
Tell her now and you won't go wrong
You got to tell her about it
Before it gets too late
You got to tell her about it
You know the girl don't want
To wait, you got to
Tell her about it

PTSD Patrol And, feelin' good was easy

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 20, 2020

Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose
Nothin', don't mean nothin' hon' if it ain't free, no no
Today the feature video is Janis Joplin, Me and Bobby McGee.  "Feeling good was easy" even though as the lyrics show, it sounds like their life together was not so easy. It was more of the state of the mind they were in where they were free to go wherever they wanted to, even though the journey itself was hard.

People assume that after you survive something, feeling good should be easy. They tell you to get over it and enjoy your life, but when you have PTSD that is the hardest thing to do. Feeling good is not so easy for you.

It is hard but you can achieve it. You can be happier than you have been because everything that you are, is still inside of you. So, if you were normal happy, you can be happy again. If little things made you feel wonderful, they can again.

I remember one day when I was at work before dawn. I was in the office by myself, put on the coffee and started to open the blinds. As I walked to the back door, the sun just started to rise. The sky became a brilliant mix of purple and red. I stood there for the longest time in awe. I could feel it in my soul!

That was after many times facing death and my ex husband trying to kill me...then stalking me. I stood at that door, looking at the engagement ring on my finger and I knew everything would be OK. 38 years later, no matter what hardships we've been through, we found the "home" we were looking for with each other.

Had I not been ready, stronger because I healed, that day would have never come. Had I not lived through everything I did, I wouldn't have been able to help my husband heal too!

Don't trade all your tomorrows for yesterdays you refuse to heal from.

Remember it is your life, get in and drive it! BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waitin' for a train
And I's feelin' near as faded as my jeans
Bobby thumbed a diesel down, just before it rained
It rode us all the way to New Orleans
I pulled my harpoon out of my dirty red bandanna
I was playin' soft while Bobby sang the blues, yeah
Windshield wipers slappin' time, I was holdin' Bobby's hand in mine
We sang every song that driver knew
Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose
Nothin', don't mean nothin' hon' if it ain't free, no no
And, feelin' good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues
You know, feelin' good was good enough for me
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee
From the Kentucky coal mine to the California sun
There Bobby shared the secrets of my soul
Through all kinds of weather, through everything we done
Yeah, Bobby baby kept me from the cold
One day up near Salinas, Lord, I let him slip away
He's lookin' for that home, and I hope he finds it
But, I'd trade all of my tomorrows, for a single yesterday
To be holdin' Bobby's body next to mine
Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose
Nothin', that's all that Bobby left me, yeah
But, feelin' good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues
Hey, feelin' good was good enough for me, mm-hmm
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee
La da da
La da da da
La da da da da da da da
La da da da da da da da
Bobby McGee, yeah
La da da da da da da
La da da da da da da
La da da da da da da
Bobby McGee, yeah
La da La la da da la da da la da da
La da da da da da da da da
Hey, my Bobby
Oh, my Bobby McGee, yeah
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la
Hey, my Bobby
Oh, my Bobby McGee, yeah
Well, I call him my lover, call him my man
I said, I call him my lover did the best I can, c'mon
Hey now, Bobby now
Hey now, Bobby McGee, yeah
Woo
La da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la la
Hey, hey, hey Bobby McGee, yeah
La da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la
Hey, hey, hey, Bobby McGee, yeah

PTSD Patrol Can't Hurry Healing

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 19, 2020

Today the feature video is another chair dancing song, Phil Collins You Can't Hurry Love.

When you have PTSD, it can be very lonely. A lot of relationships fall apart, so you are facing your pain alone. There comes a time when all you can think about is how much you want someone else in your life, but if you have not started to heal, then that new relationship will not work. When you love someone, you want to give them the best of yourself, but if it is trapped behind that wall of pain, and you are not ready, you have doomed that relationship before it even had a chance to begin.

After my ex-husband tried to kill me, the last thing I wanted was another relationship. After dating, I missed having someone in my life, but I was already healing and sure that I was ready when I met my second husband 38 years ago, the man I am still married to.

His first marriage fell apart too. We were ready for each other and then healed together.  He is a Vietnam veteran with PTSD, so maybe it was a little easier for me to understand what he was going through, just as he was able to understand what I was going through,

There are veterans who have had multiple marriages because they never invested the time in healing so they were able to give anyone the best part of themselves. You cannot hurry healing and you cannot hurry love but when you are ready, that new relationship can be so much stronger than anything you ever imagined it could be!

Remember, it is your life, get in and drive it! #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD

I need love, love
Oh, ease my mind
And I need to find time
Someone to call mine
My mama said, "you can't hurry love
No, you'll just have to wait"
She said, "love don't come easy
But it's a game of give and take"
You can't hurry love
No, you'll just have to wait
Just trust in a good time
No matter how long it takes
How many heartaches must I stand
Before I find the love to let me live again
Right now the only thing that keeps me hanging on
When I feel my strength, ooh, it's almost gone
I remember mama said, "you can't hurry love
No, you'll just have to wait"
She said, "love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take"
How long must I wait
How much more must I take
Before loneliness
Will cause my heart, heart to break
No, I can't bear to live my life alone
I grow impatient for a love to call my own
But when I feel that i, I can't go on
Well these precious words keep me hanging on
I remember mama said, "you can't hurry love
No, you'll just have to wait"
She said, "love don't come easy
But it's a game of give and take"
You can't hurry love
No, you'll just have to wait
Just trust in a good time
No matter how long it takes
Now wait
Now love, love don't come easy
But I keep on waiting
Anticipating for that soft voice
To talk to me at night
For some tender arms
Hold me tight
I keep waiting
Ooh, till that day
But it ain't easy (love don't come easy)
No, you know it ain't easy
My mama said you can't hurry love
No, you'll just have to wait
She said "love don't come easy
But it's a game of give and take"
You can't hurry love
No, you'll just have to wait
She said "love don't come easy
But it's a game of give and take"
You can't hurry love, no you'll just have to wait

PTSD Patrol head on the highway toward healing

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 18, 2020

Were you born to be wild or was your imagination? I remember as a young kid in school reading history books and imagination what it was like to be them. What was it like to be the people who decided they didn't want to be under British rule anymore? They knew that they would be hated by people they knew but it was worth it to them to lose them in order to gain freedom for everyone. They were willing to pay whatever price they had to pay.

When I read books about different parts of the world, I thought about how wonderful it would be to see all those places and experience all the beauty around the world. My imagination ran wild with possibilities.

Your imagination was also born to be wild. Sometimes it can be a bad thing, when doubts and fears flood your thoughts, trapping you with all the pain PTSD caused. Yet when your imagination is fueled with hope, then you see the obstacles but figure out a way to either get over them or get around them.

What is your wild mind trying to tell you about this ride?

I like smoke and lightnin'
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under

The only limits you have are the ones you self impose. Time to "get your motor runnin'" and head up highway to healing!

Remember, it is your life...get in and drive it! #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD

Steppenwolf - Born To Be Wild (Easy Rider) (1969)
Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah, darlin', go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once and
Explode into space
I like smoke and lightnin'
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under
Yeah, darlin', go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once and
Explode into space
Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die
Born to be wild
Born to be wild
Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
We're lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah, darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once and
Explode into space
Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die
Born to be wild

PTSD Patrol road of truth and honesty

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 17, 2020

Truth and Honesty! Why is it important when you have PTSD? Without it, you continue to suffer, and so does your family. They have no idea what is going on with you, so they blame themselves, searching for a way to understand why you changed. They have no way of knowing why you are no longer happy, or why you react the way you do. When they do know, then they want to help you heal.

I have seen too many families fall apart when the other person was loving and kind but were not given the chance to help. They ended up being bitter. Kids blamed themselves. No one was happy anymore.

Yet when the family knows that you are hurting, they understand where the change came from and they try to help you. Kids will want to help and may hug you more. Your spouse won't want you to sleep on the couch and get as far away from you as possible, because they understand you're suffering has nothing to do with them or how you feel about them, but that you need them and want them in your life.

Much happier ending for everyone!

That is why today the feature video is Aretha Franklin, Truth And Honesty! Enjoy!

Remember it is your life, get in an drive it! #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD

I would like to see a show of hands
Nothin' concealed, roll up your sleeve
Nothin' up my [Incomprehensible] except my heart
And I believe we've come apart
I would like to see you play your cards
Reveal your hands and show your heart
Maybe we could get it back
With truth and honesty that's what we need to hold on
To the good stuff we believe in
Before we land up loose and sad and free

Before we find that it's gone
We could pull it back together, truth and honesty
Open up your hands, show me your heart
Let's stay up till dawn and talk it out
Nothin' concealed, no alibi, retunin' to light
Before we start, then all we do is fall apart
If I can see the sunlight in your eyes
Then maybe we all could shine, yeah
Maybe we could get it back, oh baby, yeah baby
Oh, truth and honesty that is what we need to hold on
To the good stuff we believe in
Before we land up loose, sad and free
Before we find out all that is gone
We could pull it back together with truth and honesty, oh
Open up your hands, show me your heart
Truth and honesty, oh, that's what we need to hold on
To the good stuff we believe in
Before we land up loose and sad and free
Before we find out that it's gone
We could pull it back together, truth and honesty
Truth and honesty, you know what we need, sure enough within
To the good stuff, the good stuff baby
You got to be real, you got to be real, you got to be sugar
To the good stuff we believe in, you got to, you got to

My Lord
I have read this book so many times
But nowhere can I find the page
That chance, what I experience today has any grace
Now I know that life was meant to be hard
And that's how I learn to appreciate my God
Though my courage made me try
I can tell you I won't hide
Because the footprints show you are by my side
You can lie to a child with a smilin' face
Tell me that color ain't about race
You can cast the first stone, you can break my bones
But you're never gonna break
You're never gonna break my
Faith and hope ain't yours to give
Truth and liberty are mine to live
You can steal a crown from a king
Break an angels wings
But you're never gonna break
You're never gonna break my faith
My Lord
Won't you help them, help them
Help them to understand
That when someone takes the life of an innocent man
Well, they never really won, and all they've really done
Is set the soul free where it's supposed to be
You can lie to a child with a smilin' face
Tell me color ain't about race
You can cast the first stone, you can break my bones
But you're never, ever, ever
You're never gonna break my
Faith and hope ain't yours to give
Truth and liberty are mine to live
Steal a crown from a king
Break an angels wings
But you're never, ever, ever
You're never gonna break my faith
For those we lose before their time
I pray that their souls will find the light
I know that the day will surely come
When His will, His will, will be done
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, oh yeah
Yeah, yeah, oh yeah
His will, will be, His will will be done
(Never gonna break my faith)
Oh yeah, His will will be done
You're never gonna break my faith
Oh no, you know you won't
You're never, never, never

Never, never, never, never, never Never, never, never, never, never, never
Never gonna break my faith
Oh you ain't gonna break my faith
