Life is ours, we live it our way

"Life is ours, we live it our way" and that should always be the case if you have PTSD. No one else has the right to judge how you live unless they know what you lived through. The most important question you should ask yourself is, "Are you a good person...or at least try to be?"

Part of having PTSD is, you may think you are evil because your thoughts are odd compared to the core of who you are. Most of that comes from a defense perspective, which is why you want to get numb. If you believe that, then it is easy for you to go against your core values, doing bad things and thinking in hateful ways. You are battling how you were made, and that can make you even more miserable.

Be true to who you always were inside and feed that part of you until it takes back over again. This is why today the feature video is Metallica Nothing Else Matters.

When I listened to the song, I almost cried because I was thinking about me and my husband. Neither one of us are "normal" and carried a lot of scars, but we healed each other heal. That is what love is supposed to do. We are not supposed to walk away just because something is hard.

I couldn't compare my marriage to anyone else's and I stopped feeling as if I had to defend it. I was willing to explain it, if they were willing to listen. If not, then t was their problem. Not mine. I owed them nothing but I owed myself the best I could give by being the best I could be.

Nothing else mattered. No one else had power over our lives or our marriage but us. You can read about the first 18 years and what we went through to know that is what I have been preaching because it is what I've been practicing knowing it works.

Remember...it is your life...get in and drive it!

Nothing Else Matters
Metallica

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters
Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words, I don't just say
And nothing else matters
Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know
So close, no matter how far
It couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know
I never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words, I don't just say
And nothing else matters
Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters
Never cared for what they say
Never cared for games they play
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
And I know, yeah, yeah
So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
No, nothing else matters

PTSD Patrol Do You Want To Stay Together?

Today the video is up early make up for yesterday. My husband had minor surgery and was supposed to come home but they decided to keep him overnight. This morning when I was driving to pick him up, I heard a song on the radio and started to chair dance.

It got me thinking about all the things we've been through and how glad I was that I decided to stay with him when things were not so good. The way I see it, I knew him when things were better. I knew his character and his heart. I knew he'd be worth whatever I needed to do to help him be happier.

The song is Al Green's Let's Stay Together.

This is for anyone who loves someone with PTSD. You need to figure out if you want to stay together in bad times as well as the good. Having PTSD isn't easy on them. It is hard on you, but especially hard on them since they lose hope as they see you pulling away from them. When they need you the most, they push you away so that you won't see how much pain they are in. That may not make sense to you, but there isn't much that does make sense when they are living on a rollercoaster with their emotions all over the place.

They feel the don't deserve anything one moment and the next, they are entitled to everything. They have overblown reactions to simple things and paranoia starts to take over too. They try to hide their pain so that you don't feel sorry for them or think they are crazy, and that leaves you not knowing what it going on.

There is no way we could have stayed together all these years if I didn't have a full understanding of what PTSD was and knew that things could get better with a lot of work and a lot of patience. Faith, well, needless to say, played a huge part in keeping me together too.

Listen to the lyrics and then ask yourself, do you want to stay together or walk away? My guess is that you love them enough to fight for them, the same way you'd hope they'd fight for you if you were the survivor who needed them!

"Let's Stay Together"

Let's stay together
I'm, I'm so in love with you
Whatever you want to do
Is alright with me
'Cause you make me feel so brand new
And I want to spend my life with you
Let me say that since, baby
Since we've been together
Loving you forever
Is what I need
Let me be the one you come running to
I'll never be untrue

Oh, baby, let's, let's stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad

Whether times are good or bad, happy or sad

Why, somebody, why people break-up
Oh, turn around and make-up
I just can't see
You'd never do that to me
Would you, baby?
Just being around you is all I see

Here's what I want us to do

Let's, we ought to stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad
Come on

Let's, let's stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad
