PTSD Patrol Stopping These Dreams

PTSD Patrol

But all I remember
Are the dreams in the mist
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away

Today the feature video is Heart These Dreams.

Every second of the night you do live another life when you have PTSD. Your dreams end up being nightmares because in the darkness, it tries to take over. Like when a young child dreams about monsters under their bed, it returns.

One parent may tell them that monsters are not real, then tell them to get back in their bed. A smart parent will explain that monster is a coward because it is afraid of the light. They say, "Turn the light on, stomp your feet on the floor and tell that coward to go away."

You can change the nightmares by turning on the light and confronting that monster with the knowledge of where its power comes from. Take that power away and stop feeding it with your fear. Repel it with knowing that you survived it and there is no way in hell you will let it take over the life you have waiting for you to live!

Remember, it is your life....get in and drive it!

Spare a little candle
Save some light for me
Figures up ahead
Moving in the trees
White skin in linen
Perfume on my wrist
And the full moon that hangs over
These dreams in the mist
Darkness on the edge
Shadows where I stand
I search for the time
On a watch with no hands
I want to see you clearly
Come closer than this
But all I remember
Are the dreams in the mist
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away
Is it cloak and dagger
Could it be spring or fall?
I walk without a cut
Through a stained glass wall
Weaker in my eyesight
The candle in my grip
And words that have no form
Are falling from my lips
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away
There's something out there
I can't resist
I need to hide away from the pain
There's something out there
I can't resist
The sweetest song is silence
That I've ever heard
Funny how your feet
In dreams never touch the earth
In a wood full of princes
Freedom is a kiss
But the prince hides his face
From dreams in the mist
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away

November 11, 2020 Veterans Day

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 11, 2020

Today is Veterans Day and that is why the feature video is Elton John Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me because that is exactly what we have done to veterans.

But these cuts I have
They need love (they need love, they need love)
To help them heal
Oh, don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free, oh
'Cause losing everything is like the sun going down on me
Don't let the sun go down on me
When we survive the traumatic events that cause PTSD, we do not think about our veterans. Had it not been for Vietnam veterans returning from combat, no one would be doing much about what trauma does to the survivors. They came home and fought for the research and funding...that created all the responses we receive. From trauma units and crisis intervention teams, to mental health professionals and peer support, none of that would have happened, but we do not think about any of that.

Vietnam veterans fought for their generation, and all those who came before them as well as those they knew would come after them. The rest of Americans benefitted from their battles, and so did the rest of the world.

So from PTSD Patrol and all the veterans in our families, thank you! Thank you for all you were willing to do for all of us!

I can't light no more of your darkness
All my pictures seem to fade to black and white
I'm growing tired and time stands still before me
Frozen here on the ladder of my life
It's much too late to save myself from falling
I took a chance and changed your way of life
But you misread my meaning when I met you
Closed the door and left me blinded by the light
Don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free, oh
But losing everything is like the sun going down on me
I can't find
Oh, the right romantic line
But see me once and see the way I feel
Don't discard me, baby don't
Just because you think I mean, you harm
(Just because you think I mean you harm, oh)
But these cuts I have (cuts I have)
They need love (they need love, they need love)
To help them heal
Oh, don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free, oh
'Cause losing everything is like the sun going down on me
Don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else that I see, yeah
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free baby, oh

'Cause losing everything is like the sun going down on me

PTSD Parol Carry On healing

Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more

Today the feature video is Kansas Carry On My Wayward Son! There is a pain that is deeper than crying. That is when PTSD caused a wall to built around your heart and traps the pain behind it. It also prevents good feeling from getting in. They cannot break through the wall and there is no room for it to get in, even if it could.

When you are healing, that wall begins to crack. Then it starts to fall apart rushing all those bad feelings out of you, until there is only room for good ones to take their proper place in your life.

Then there comes a day when you don't need to cry anymore. That is a wonderful feeling and so much better than just feeling misery.

REMEMBER IT IS YOUR LIFE....GET IN AN DRIVE!

Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high
Though my eyes could see, I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think, I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them say
Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, well
It surely means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about, I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more, no
Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
Now your life's no longer empty
Surely heaven waits for you
Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry, don't you cry no more
No more

PTSD Patrol healing on a lonely road

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 9, 2020

Being alone can be very depressing. It can be even more so when your job has you away from family and friends. Sometimes you can be lonely even with you are with other people. A police officer can be lonely even sitting next to their partner. Firefighters can be lonely when they are at the station sitting at a table with the others. Truckers are lonely, military members can be lonely and the list goes on.

Right now there are a lot of people who are lonely but when they see people still going out and getting together in groups, it can be even worse. The thing is, you need to remember that even when they are with a lot of other people, some are still lonely.

I have talked to a lot of people over the years, who still lived with family and had friends, but felt all alone. If you have PTSD, you could also feel alone even with others around you. That is why today there are two feature videos. The first is Journey Faithfully and Glen Campbell Wichita Lineman to give you some comfort knowing that there are others who are alone too.

I don't know how many other ways I can put this but if you know what PTSD is and understand that there is nothing to be ashamed of, especially as a survivor, you will open up to others because you know you can explain it to them. It also makes it easier to ask for help. You'll be amazed by how others will help you and stand by you.

Highway run
Into the midnight sun
Wheels go round and round
You're on my mind
Restless hearts
Sleep alone tonight
Sendin' all my love
Along the wire
They say that the road
Ain't no place to start a family
Right down the line
It's been you and me
And lovin' a music man
Ain't always what it's supposed to be
Oh girl you stand by me
I'm forever yours, faithfully
Circus life
Under the big top world
We all need the clowns
To make us smile
Through space and time
Always another show
Wondering where I am
Lost without you
And being apart ain't easy on this love affair
Two strangers learn to fall in love again
I get the joy
Of rediscovering you
Oh girl, you stand by me
I'm forever yours, faithfully
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Faithfully, I'm still yours
I'm forever yours
Ever yours, faithfully

I am a lineman for the county
And I drive the main road
Searchin' in the sun for another overload
I hear you singin' in the wire,
I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line
I know I need a small vacation
But it don't look like rain
And if it snows that stretch down south won't ever stand the strain
And I need you more than want you,
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line
And I need you more than want you,
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

PTSD Patrol Alive Celebration Day

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 7, 2020

Today the feature video is Kool and The Gang "Celebration" because healing is worth celebrating!

Everyday after "it" happened to you, from the first breath you took, to all the people who showed up to help you, all the people who stood by you and prayed for you, all those who gave you sympathy and showed you compassion, are all worthy reasons to celebrate.

The hours, days, weeks, months and years you spent suffering, are also worthy of celebrating because you survived them too. You survived those who turned away from you, and the darkness to arrive at this point in your life when you decided that that misery needed to end so you could begin to be happy. You forgave!

So yes, celebrate this new chapter of your life when you are healing instead of grieving!
