PTSD Patrol racing with destiny

PTSD Patrol

I broke my heart
Fought every gain
To taste the sweet
I face the pain
I rise and fall
Yet through it all
This much remains
I want one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity
Those are the words from the feature video today, the incomparable Whitney Houston's One Moment In Time.

Do those words sound like you and your life now? If you've been watching these videos and discovering what you needed to know about PTSD, I believe you see yourself clearly.

Beginning to taste the sweet may be even sweeter because of the bitterness you used to know. It may be because the pain you felt for far too long has also made you feel this aliveness more profoundly.

I hope you have far more than one moment in time discovering you can be more than you thought you could be, and if you do, pass it on so others can have these moments too!

Remember it is your life and you need to get in and drive it!

Each day I live
I want to be
A day to give
The best of me
I'm only one
But not alone
My finest day
Is yet unknown
I broke my heart
Fought every gain
To taste the sweet
I face the pain
I rise and fall
Yet through it all
This much remains
I want one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity
I've lived to be
The very best
I want it all
No time for less
I've laid the plans
Now lay the chance
Here in my hands
Give me one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity
You're a winner for a lifetime
If you seize that one moment in time
Make it shine
Give me one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will be
I will be
I will be free
I will be
I will be free

PTSD Patrol dancing in the driver's seat

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 13, 2020

Friday the 13th in this crazy year of 2020....most people think it is an unlucky day. The Scotsman has a great article on this.
Why is number 13 considered unlucky?
‘Unlucky 13’ has been a superstition since the middle ages when Christians associated it with the number of guests at the last supper - the night before Jesus was crucified.
Judas, the 13th guest to attend the dinner, betrayed Jesus.
For me, I don't look at it that way. I look at it as possibilities because of what Jesus and the 12 managed to do in 3 short years, along with the 72 others. 72 others? Yes. It is in Luke 10
Jesus Sends Out the Seventy-Two
10 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two[a] others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

There are a lot of things the most people think are true, and let others form their own thoughts instead of letting you find your own. If they tell you that you are doomed because you have PTSD or will have an unlucky life, or worse, are suffering because you deserve it, they know nothing. It may make them feel better taking you down or seeing you suffer but you are the only one who can defeat their delusion and prove them wrong.

You are on the road to healing and can leave them behind if they will not help you. Or, you can help them be happy too. That is also in your power to decide.

Stress is also something that you can decide to have or let go of, even if it is only for a little while.

I was driving earlier today and feeling stress in my neck when the song from Taste of Honey came on. I ended up dancing in the driver's seat. The rest of the drive home, was stress free.

Music can do that if you let it. Everyday find a song that makes you want to dance, even if it is in your chair. Let it lift you up from the mood you were in, even if it only lasts for a little while.

The more you do it, the more you take power away from PTSD and feed the power that does in fact belong to you.

Remember, it is your life...get in and drive it!

If you're thinkin' you're too cool to boogie
Boy oh boy have I got news for you
Everybody here tonight must boogie
Let me tell ya, you are no exception to the rule
Get on up, on the floor 'Cause we're gonna boogie oogie oogie
'Till you just can't boogie no more
Ah boogie, boogie no more
You can't boogie no more
Ah boogie, boogie no more
Listen to the music
There's no time to waste let's get the show on the road
Listen to the music and let your body flow
The sooner we begin the longer we got to groove
Listen to the music and let your body move
Now get on up, on the floor
'Cause we're gonna boogie oogie oogie
'Till you just can't boogie no more
Ah boogie, boogie no more
You can't boogie no more
Ah boogie, boogie no more
Listen to my bass here
Get down boogie oogie oogie
Get down boogie oogie oogie
Get down boogie oogie oogie
Get down

PTSD Patrol Stopping These Dreams

PTSD Patrol

November 12, 2020

But all I remember
Are the dreams in the mist
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away

Today the feature video is Heart These Dreams.

Every second of the night you do live another life when you have PTSD. Your dreams end up being nightmares because in the darkness, it tries to take over. Like when a young child dreams about monsters under their bed, it returns.

One parent may tell them that monsters are not real, then tell them to get back in their bed. A smart parent will explain that monster is a coward because it is afraid of the light. They say, "Turn the light on, stomp your feet on the floor and tell that coward to go away."

You can change the nightmares by turning on the light and confronting that monster with the knowledge of where its power comes from. Take that power away and stop feeding it with your fear. Repel it with knowing that you survived it and there is no way in hell you will let it take over the life you have waiting for you to live!

Remember, it is your life....get in and drive it!

Spare a little candle
Save some light for me
Figures up ahead
Moving in the trees
White skin in linen
Perfume on my wrist
And the full moon that hangs over
These dreams in the mist
Darkness on the edge
Shadows where I stand
I search for the time
On a watch with no hands
I want to see you clearly
Come closer than this
But all I remember
Are the dreams in the mist
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away
Is it cloak and dagger
Could it be spring or fall?
I walk without a cut
Through a stained glass wall
Weaker in my eyesight
The candle in my grip
And words that have no form
Are falling from my lips
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away
There's something out there
I can't resist
I need to hide away from the pain
There's something out there
I can't resist
The sweetest song is silence
That I've ever heard
Funny how your feet
In dreams never touch the earth
In a wood full of princes
Freedom is a kiss
But the prince hides his face
From dreams in the mist
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away
These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away

November 11, 2020 Veterans Day

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 11, 2020

Today is Veterans Day and that is why the feature video is Elton John Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me because that is exactly what we have done to veterans.

But these cuts I have
They need love (they need love, they need love)
To help them heal
Oh, don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free, oh
'Cause losing everything is like the sun going down on me
Don't let the sun go down on me
When we survive the traumatic events that cause PTSD, we do not think about our veterans. Had it not been for Vietnam veterans returning from combat, no one would be doing much about what trauma does to the survivors. They came home and fought for the research and funding...that created all the responses we receive. From trauma units and crisis intervention teams, to mental health professionals and peer support, none of that would have happened, but we do not think about any of that.

Vietnam veterans fought for their generation, and all those who came before them as well as those they knew would come after them. The rest of Americans benefitted from their battles, and so did the rest of the world.

So from PTSD Patrol and all the veterans in our families, thank you! Thank you for all you were willing to do for all of us!

I can't light no more of your darkness
All my pictures seem to fade to black and white
I'm growing tired and time stands still before me
Frozen here on the ladder of my life
It's much too late to save myself from falling
I took a chance and changed your way of life
But you misread my meaning when I met you
Closed the door and left me blinded by the light
Don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free, oh
But losing everything is like the sun going down on me
I can't find
Oh, the right romantic line
But see me once and see the way I feel
Don't discard me, baby don't
Just because you think I mean, you harm
(Just because you think I mean you harm, oh)
But these cuts I have (cuts I have)
They need love (they need love, they need love)
To help them heal
Oh, don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free, oh
'Cause losing everything is like the sun going down on me
Don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else that I see, yeah
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free baby, oh

'Cause losing everything is like the sun going down on me

PTSD Parol Carry On healing

PTSD Patrol

Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more

Today the feature video is Kansas Carry On My Wayward Son! There is a pain that is deeper than crying. That is when PTSD caused a wall to built around your heart and traps the pain behind it. It also prevents good feeling from getting in. They cannot break through the wall and there is no room for it to get in, even if it could.

When you are healing, that wall begins to crack. Then it starts to fall apart rushing all those bad feelings out of you, until there is only room for good ones to take their proper place in your life.

Then there comes a day when you don't need to cry anymore. That is a wonderful feeling and so much better than just feeling misery.

REMEMBER IT IS YOUR LIFE....GET IN AN DRIVE!

Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high
Though my eyes could see, I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think, I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them say
Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, well
It surely means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about, I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more, no
Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
Now your life's no longer empty
Surely heaven waits for you
Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry, don't you cry no more
No more
