The pains of Christmas?

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
December 2, 2020

Well, it is the Christmas season again. Most people want the Norman Rockwell kind of Christmas. They are out buying gifts, decorations and mailing out Christmas cards. Some do it because they actually enjoy it but others think they have to.

This year, things are not 'normal" as more people are struggling to just feed their families, keep a roof over their heads and survive during a pandemic that was allowed to get totally out of control. Knowing things could have been different, makes the suffering worse.

As hard as this year is, this is the worst season if you have PTSD. You're already depressed and lonely! You didn't need any of the extra burdens on your shoulders.
You may be asking if there is anything you can do about it and yes you can! Look at what this holiday is supposed to be all about. It is the season of love and miracles. You can actually give yourself a gift this year, that will end up being one for those you love all year around....healing!

What better way of showing how much they mean to you than to be the best person you can be? Then stop doing things because you think you have to, buying gifts you cannot afford...and all the other traditional crap that you really don't want to do. Do what will really come from your heart and live a better life!

Remember, it is your your life...get in and drive it! #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife

The Twelve Pains of Christmas
Bob Rivers

The first thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Is finding a Christmas tree
The second thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Rigging up the lights
And finding a Christmas tree
The third thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Hangovers
Rigging up the lights
And finding a Christmas tree
The fourth thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Sending Christmas cards
Hangovers
Rigging up the lights
And finding a Christmas tree
The fifth thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Five months of bills
Sending Christmas cards
Hangovers
Rigging up the lights
And finding a Christmas tree
The sixth thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Facing my in-laws
Five months of bills
"I hate those Christmas cards!"
Hangovers
Rigging up these lights
And finding a Christmas tree
The seventh thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Salvation Army
Facing my in-laws
Five months of bills
Sending Christmas cards
"Aw geez"
"I'm trying to rig up these lights!"
And finding a Christmas tree
The eighth thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
"I want ant farmer for Christmas"
"Charities, and what do you mean your inlaws?"
Five months of bills
"Ah, mailing out these cards!"
"Edith, get me a beer, huh!"
"What, we have no extension chord?!?"
And finding a Christmas tree
The ninth thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Finding parking spaces
"Daddy, I want some candy!"
"Donations!"
Facing my in-laws
Five months of bills
"Writing up those Christmas cards"
Hangovers
"Now why the hell are they blinking?"
And finding a Christmas tree
The tenth thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Batteries not included
No parking spaces
"Buy me something!"
"Get a job ya bum!"
Facing the inlaws
Five months of bills
"Yo ho, sending Christmas cards"
"Ah geez, look at this!"
"One light goes out, they all go out!"
And finding a Christmas tree
The eleventh thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Stale TV specials
Batteries not included
No parking spaces
"I gotta go to the bathroom"
Charities
"She's a witch, I hate her!"
Five months of bills
"Oh, I don't even know half these people!"
"Who's got the toilet paper?"
"Get a flashlight, I blew a fuse!"
And finding a Christmas tree
The twelfth thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Singing Christmas Carols
Stale TV specials
Batteries not included
No parking
"Waaah!"
Charities
Gotta make 'em dinner
Five months of bills
"I'm not sending them, Mister, that's it!"
"Shut up, you!"
"Fine, you're so smart, you rig up the lights!"
And finding a Christmas tree

Miracles Out Of Nowhere

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
December 1, 2020

With so much suffering in this country, a lot of people are asking "Where is God?" The truth is, He is all around us.

When people decide that they want to make a positive difference in this world, to help someone else, that is a miracle. It is a miracle when doctors and nurses show up everyday to save lives, even though they are risking their own, fighting to keep people alive. Some of them are even arguing with the nurses saying the pandemic is not real, right before the tubes go into their mouths and down their throats.

It is a miracle when patients leave the hospital after hundreds of days fighting for their lives and go back to their families.

Miracles happen when people decide that they will do what they can to help people find food, and they stand loading cars with food that others had donated, to total strangers, so they will not go hungry,

If you have PTSD, that means you are a survivor, and that in itself is a miracle. You may not feel like it is if you are still suffering, but I can assure you, that once you start healing, you see that miracle even stronger, And then, you can be a miracle for someone else, because you know what they are going through and can help them believe in the miracle of their own life.

When people act out of love and kindness, that is a miracle and each one of those acts, comes from God. He uses us to answer the prayers of others. If you act on what is needed, then you are acting on His behalf!

Remember...it is your life....get in and drive it! #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD

This is about a nurse working in a cancer unit. One of her patients was having a hard time, so she started to sing to her. On this days, the woman got bad news....and the nurses act of kindness was recorded. When you watch this report, think about all the other times that are not captured on video....

Miracles Out Of Nowhere
Song by Kansas

On a crystal morning I can see the dewdrops falling
Down from a gleaming heaven, I can hear the voices call
When you comin' home now, son, the world is not for you
Tell me what's your point of view?
Hey there Mister Madman, what you know that I don't know
Tell me some crazy stories, let me know who runs this show
Glassy-eyed and laughing, he turns and walks away
Tell me what made you that way?
Here I am just waiting for a sign
Asking questions, learning all the time
It's always here, it's always there
It's just love and miracles out of nowhere, out of nowhere
Tell me now dear mother, what's it like to be so old
Children grown and leavin', seems the world is growin' cold
Though your body's ailin' you, your mind is just like new
Tell me where you're goin' to?
It's so simple lying right before your eyes
If you'll only look through this disguise
It's always here, it's always there
It's just love and miracles out of nowhere
It's just love and miracles out of nowhere
Yeah
I sing this song a hundred, maybe a thousand years ago
No one ever listens, I just play and then I go
Off into the sunset like the western heroes do
Tell me what you're gonna do?
Here I am, I'm sure to see a sign
All my life I knew that it was mine
It's always here, it's always there
It's just love and miracles out of nowhere
It's just love and miracles out of nowhere
Out of nowhere, out of nowhere

Getting by with a little help from real friends

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 30, 2020

Don't you know I'm gonna make it with my friends? (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I promised myself I'd get by (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Said I'm gonna try and not work too hard (Ooh)
Well I, yeah yeah yeah
(Could it be anybody?)
Oh there's gotta be somebody
Don't treat me wrong Lord
Joe Crocker

...but what if you don't have real friends you can turn to to help you? That happens a lot more times than people want to admit. I know it has happened to me. I thought some people were my friends but it turned out, they only wanted me around when they needed something, but were never there when I did. If you have one or two real friends, then you are blessed. It has more to do with who you meet than who you are. If you need help with PTSD, then seek out a support group. That is where you do matter to people who understand you, and they want to help you as much as they want your help..and then you get by with a little help for your real friends!

Remember, it is your life...get in and drive it! #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD

What would you do if I sang out of tune?
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song
I will try not to sing out of key
Oh, baby I get by (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
All I need is my buddies (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I say I'm gonna get high (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Oh yeah (Ooh)
What do I do when my love is away?
(Does it worry you to be alone?)
No no
How do I feel at the end of the day?
(Are you sad because you're on your own?)
I tell ya I don't get sad no more
Gonna get by with my friends (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Yeah yeah, I'm gonna try (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Keep on getting high, oh Lord (Ooh)
I need somebody to love
(Could it be anybody?)
All I need is someone
That's just where I'm going, yeah
Somebody knows that's where I'm showing
Baby
Said I'm gonna make it with my friends (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Oh, I'm gonna keep on trying (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I'm gonna keep on trying (Ooh)
I'm certain it happens all the time, yeah
(What do you see when you turn out the light?)
I can't tell you but it sure feels like mine
Don't you know I'm gonna make it with my friends? (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I promised myself I'd get by (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Said I'm gonna try and not work too hard (Ooh)
Well I, yeah yeah yeah
(Could it be anybody?)
Oh there's gotta be somebody
Don't treat me wrong Lord
Oh yeah yeah
Said I'm gonna get by with my friends, yeah (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Oh, yes I'm gonna keep trying, now (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Keep on trying with my friends (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Oh, I'm never gonna stop there, oh (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I'm gonna keep on trying, yeah yeah (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I'm getting high, I'm gonna make time, oh Lord (Ooh)
Gonna get by with my friends
Oh, I'm gonna get on by, yes I'm gonna get on by, my Lord
I'm gonna tell them all about it, I'm gonna tell them all, yeah yeah

Letting music help you Drift Away

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 29, 2020

Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Beginning to think that I'm wastin' time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
So I'm countin' on you to carry me through
If you haven't guessed by now, the feature video on PTSD Patrol is Dobie Gray Drift Away.

Hopefully by now, with all the music being shared, you've noticed how you mood does change, even if it is just for a little while. This is why music therapy works on PTSD. It takes your mind away from your problems and helps to teach your body to calm down again.

This is one of the best songs to explain that.
Remember, it is your life...get in and drive it. #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD

Day after day I'm more confused
Yet I look for the light in the pouring rain
You know that's a game that I hate to lose
I'm feelin' the strain, ain't it a shame
Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Beginning to think that I'm wastin' time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
So I'm countin' on you to carry me through
Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue
The guitar's comin' through to soothe me
Thanks for the joy that you've given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
Rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You help me along makin' me strong
Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Oh, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Hey, hey, give me the beat boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Na na na, won't ya, won't ya take me
Oh oh, take me
Won't find
Early in the morning, they wanna take me
Come on and free my soul na na and drift away

Fighting is a choice we all have to make at one point in our life or another

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
November 28, 2020

I never thought I would ever use the word Saint and Alice Cooper in the same sentence, but here it is. He came out with a song about not giving up, Don't Give Up. Fighting is a choice we all have to make at one point in our life or another. In this case, it is deciding if you want to fight for the lives of others.

Do you only focus on your own pain, or search your soul to see what you can do to change the lives of others for the better, because you've been there and know what it is like. What it is like to be hopeless, afraid, lonely and discouraged, but you also know what it was like when someone came along and helped you feel better about your own life.

When Thanksgiving came, there were people all over the country, lining up at food distribution sites. Not to get food, but to give it out to those who would otherwise go hungry. When musicians take the time to come up with songs like this one from Alice Cooper, and Steven Perry in the other video, they do it, not for the publicity, but to use their publicity to make things better.

Right now, all over the country, there are people stepping up to make a positive difference. There are some out there who do not believe there is a plague and deny they are contributing to it, because they cannot see how they can make a difference in a positive way to help others through it. Try to not focus on them because they are not happy or loving people. They are miserable and spread their misery as fast as the plague.

When you have PTSD, you run into that type of person all the time. They deny what PTSD is and can make it feel as if the world is crashing in on you. Don't spend your time with the people knocking down the rocks on your head, but focus on those securing the walls to keep you safer.

Miracles happen everyday because people care and know where you are so they can help you, Seek them out instead of hiding from them. They can't help you if they don't know you need it.

Yeah, I know you're struggling right now
We all are, in different ways
It's like a new world that we don't even know
It's hard to sleep
Even harder to dream
But look, you've got 7 billion brothers and sisters all in the same boat
So don't panic
Life has a way of surviving and going on and on
We're not fragile, and we sure don't break easy
You know it's so hard to cope
When you're just hoping there's hope
We're all hanging on by a thread
We're all staring at the razor's edge
But we're not going to step off the ledge
No!
Our enemy is a cold, indiscriminate monster
It doesn't care if you're old or newborn, it exists to kill
You and I are nothing to it
It has no heart or soul or conscience
Do we fear it? Yeah
Do we cower before it? Hell no
We're the blood and guts human race, and we win!
You know that it's right
So we just gotta fight
Yeah, we're all hanging on by a thread
We're all staring at the razor's edge
But we're not going to step off the ledge
No!
We're all hanging on by a thread
We're all staring at the razor's edge
But we're not going to step off the ledge
No!
This is Alice Cooper in Detroit
Let's keep fighting
Don't give up

Under neon lights, we claim this town
No one can take us down
No, not tonight
City Boys and City Girls
Runnin' Wild
Burning like a fallin' star
Golden stardust, that's what we are
Young voices carry on
Come together in the same ole song
We're still here
We're shadows fallin'
The night is callin' again
We're still here
Where love is runnin'
The night is calling, again
(Brother to brother)
Another night, another town
Walkin' my heart around
Same old choices, again
Like so many tears in the rain
Will they remember your name
Young hearts reach fearlessly
In the night
We're still here
We're shadows fallin'
The night is callin' again
We're still here
Where love is runnin'
The night is calling, again
(Sister to sister)
We're all together
(You know, I care)
We are
(We will)
Always
(Be together)
We're still here
We're shadows fallin'
The night is callin' again
We're still here
Where love is runnin'
The night is calling, again
(Brother to Brother)
Brother to Brother
(Sister to Sister)
We're still here
Where love is runnin'
The night is calling, again
