PTSD Patrol "But too easy to say no"

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
September 23, 2020

These are troubling times in this country. It makes it worse if you are struggling to heal PTSD. People can be very cruel no matter what you do. They misjudge you, walk away from you and blame you for what is lousy in their own lives.

It does not change because decades do. What does change is those who refuse to learn from the past, will forever be relegated to ranks of other feeble minded fools throughout history. In other words, the problem is not yours....it belongs to them.

Sometimes we find comfort knowing someone else understands what we are going through. It is just as necessary as knowing we can get out of the dark times too.

If you are on social media, and feel worse being with people you know, stop going into those groups.

Notice what they say and how they treat others, because that is how they show their true self.

Then break free from them because they will suck the life and joy out of you, wasting your time when you could be finding someone to give you hope again...and help you #BreakTheSilence and #TakeBackYourLife from #PTSD

(Yes, still sick but feeling better.)

Easy To Be Hard
Three Dog Night

How can people be so heartless
How can people be so cruel
Easy to be hard
Easy to be cold
How can people have no feelings
How can they ignore their friends
Easy to be proud
Easy to say no
Especially people who care about strangers
Who care about evil and social injustice
Do you only care about being proud
How about I need a friend, I need a friend
How can people be so heartless
You know I'm hung up on you
Easy to be proud
Easy to say no
Especially people who care about strangers
Who care about evil and social injustice
Do you only care about being proud
How about I need a friend, I need a friend
How can people be so heartless
How can people be so cruel
Easy to be proud, easy to say no
Easy to be gone, easy to say no
Come on, easy to get read
Easy to say no
But too easy to be cold
Easy to say no
But too easy to say no

PTSD Patrol Don't Give Up On Me

PTSD Patrol

September 22, 2020

(Still sick and now pulled muscles from coughing....)

I was thinking about what video to put up today along with knowing one from me wouldn't be a good idea. Wouldn't be very inspirational. Today I went grocery shopping because the meds were helping enough that I could breathe easier.

I had my mask on, which was good since I was coughing at times and had to breathe through my mouth. The strange thing is, people were really nice because I think they could see I was struggling. After everything was almost loaded into the car, there were 2 cases of water left. A man, also wearing a mask, asked if I needed help. At that point, I had already taken mine off, so I walked away from him and accepted his help. I let him know I appreciated it.

Not giving up kept coming into my mind. In all honesty, this song was not among the ones I was searching for, but when I heard the lyrics, it seemed perfect.

While the song is not about PTSD it is about not giving up on someone...as much as it is about them not giving up on you!

Don't Give Up On Me

I will fight
I will fight for you
I always do until my heart
Is black and blue
And I will stay
I will stay with you
We'll make it to the other side
Like lovers do
I'll reach my hands out in the dark
And wait for yours to interlock
I'll wait for you
I'll wait for you
'Cause I'm not givin' up
I'm not givin' up, givin' up
No, not yet
Even when I'm down to my last breath
Even when they say there's nothin' left
So don't give up on
I'm not givin' up
I'm not givin' up, givin' up
No, not me
Even when nobody else believes
I'm not goin' down that easily
So don't give up on me
And I will hold
I'll hold onto you
No matter what this world'll throw
It won't shake me loose
I'll reach my hands out in the dark
And wait for yours to interlock
I'll wait for you
I'll wait for you
'Cause I'm not givin' up
I'm not givin' up, givin' up
No, not yet
Even when I'm down to my last breath
Even when they say there's nothin' left
So don't give up on
I'm not givin' up
I'm not givin' up, givin' up
No, not me
Even when nobody else believes
I'm not goin' down that easily
So don't give up on me
Whoa, whoa
Whoa, whoa
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yea
I will fight
I will fight for you
I always do until my heart
Is black and blue

PTSD Patrol...do they know you'd help them if you could?

(Still sick)

Today I thought it would be a good day to help a family dealing with someone they love, who is hurting, but they do not know how to help them.

It is very difficult to go through it when you know they are suffering but they will not talk to you about it.

Most of the time they are afraid of how you will act or what you will think of them, so they just try to hide their pain.

Sometimes you have to #BreakTheSilence for them!

Open the door by sharing this song with them and let them know, you see what they think they are hiding and will move mountains to help them!

If I Could
Barbra Streisand

If I could
I'd protect you from the sadness in your eyes
Give you courage in a world of compromise
Yes, I would
If I could
I would teach you all the things I've never learned
And I'd help you cross the bridges that I've burned
Yes, I would
If I could
I would try to shield your innocence from time
But the part of life I gave you isn't mine
I've watched you grow
So I could let you go
If I could
I would help you make it through the hungry years
But I know that I can never cry your tears
But I would
If I could
If I live
In a time and place where you don't want to be
You don't have to walk along this road with me
My yesterday
Won't have to be your way
If I knew
I'd have tried to change the world I brought to you to
And there isn't very much that I can do
But I would
If I could
If I could
I would try to shield your innocence from time
But the part of life I gave you isn't mine
I've watched you grow
So I could let you go
If, if I could
I would help you make it through those hungry years
But I know that I can never cry your tears
But I would
If I could
Yes I would
Yes I would
If I could

PTSD Patrol "But the fighter still remains"

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
September 20, 2020

(Still sick so no video from me today....but you probably need a break from seeing me.)

Simon and Garfunkel THE BOXER is an iconic song of survival! "In the clearing stands a boxer, And a fighter by his trade, And he carries the reminders, Of every glove that laid him down, Or cut him 'til he cried out, In his anger and his shame, 'I am leaving, I am leaving,' But the fighter still remains"
If you have PTSD, then you are a fighter too, not by "trade" or by choice, but by will to live. To not give into something because fighting it is hard. You fight a good match but sometimes you need a tag team to take this opponent on. The thing is, no one ever won anything by themselves. No wars were ever fought by one person. No discoveries were ever made by one person with no one to help them or support them. Inspirations never came from thin air.

Having a team to help you does not mean they have to have all the answers or even know how to find them. It means they do the best they can to help you learn what you need to, find what you are searching for, and stand by you until the fighter that still remains is strong enough to take on this match too!

The Boxer
I am just a poor boy
Though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocket full of mumbles
Such are promises
All lies and jests
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
When I left my home and my family
I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers
In the quiet of the railway station
Running scared
Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters
Where the ragged people go
Looking for the places
Only they would know
Lie la lie, lie la la la lie la lie, lie la lie
Lie la la la lie la lie, la la la la lie
Asking only workman's wages
I come looking for a job
But I get no offers
Just a come-on from the whores
On Seventh Avenue
I do declare
There were times when I was so lonesome
I took some comfort there
La la la la la la la
Lie la lie, lie la la la lie la lie, lie la lie
Lie la la la lie la lie, la la la la lie
Then I'm laying out my winter clothes
And wishing I was gone
Going home
Where the New York City winters
Aren't bleeding me
Leading me
Going home
In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of every glove that laid him down
Or cut him 'til he cried out
In his anger and his shame
"I am leaving, I am leaving"
But the fighter still remains
Lie la lie, lie la la la lie la lie, lie la lie.......

PTSD Patrol Want A New Drug?

PTSD Patrol
Kathie Costos
September 19, 2020

Yesterday I did not post anything because I was dealing with emergency care for a sinus infection and bronchitis. Thankfully the staff at Wentworth Douglas were spot on because I am feeling better today. The meds are helping. That is why today, the featured video is Huey Lewis and The News "I Want A New Drug."

If the meds you are getting for #PTSD are not helping, talk to your doctors so they try something else to help you. Remember, that is why they are there..... Something may work for a buddy, but that does not mean it will work for you. Keep trying!

Oh
I want a new drug, one that won't make me sick
One that won't make me crash my car
Or make me feel feet, feet, feet thick
I want a new drug, one that won't hurt my head
One that won't make my mouth too dry
Or make my eyes too red
One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you
When I'm alone with you
I want a new drug, one that won't spill
One that don't cost too much
Or come in a pill
I want a new drug, one that won't go away
One that won't keep me up all night
One that won't make me sleep all day
One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you
I'm alone with you
I'm alone with you, baby
I want a new drug, one that does what it should
One that won't make me feel too bad
One that won't make me feel too good
I want a new drug, one with no doubt
One that won't make me talk to much
Or make my face break out
One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you
I'm alone with you
I'm alone with you, yeah, yeah
